President & Senior Patent Attorney
Stephen (Steve) worked as an engineer for 6 years before changing careers to become a patent agent (1992) and then a patent attorney (1994). He spent a total of 17 years in the law departments of two Fortune 500 companies. In addition to his J.D. degree, he holds a B.S. degree in Physics and an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, with a concentration in optics. He is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, before the state bars of Wisconsin and Minnesota, and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
He has strong ties to Wisconsin, including an uncle (Charles F. Jensen) who was a small town attorney in the Stevens Point, Plainfield, and Tomahawk areas. Growing up in a big family that lived in Stevens Point, Iola, and then Appleton, Stephen left the state to find work, but–for almost 30 years–hoped to return to this northern part of Wisconsin he loved so much. The opportunity came in 2013, when he returned to the area and joined Tom Wilhelm’s firm. He bought the firm from Tom in March, 2015.
